❥ true ending guide (+ explanations)

Since CUE PITY'S ARROW has a heavy reliance on blind choices to the point of basically being RNG (i'm so sorry), it's extremely hard to get its true ending.

Now that the game has been up for a couple days, here's some tips!

  • The choice of what to order at the start determines how many questions Tavi will ask Karius. This corresponds to how long each item takes to make/serve:
    • An almond croissant = 3/5 questions
    • Some cheesecake brownies = 4/5 questions
    • Some blueberry crepes = 5/5 questions
  • (I recommend selecting 'some blueberry crepes' here and making a save file.)
  • You must answer at least three questions of Tavi's questions 'correctly' to get the true ending. With this jam version of the game not providing many hints due to O2A2's 1000-word limit, it's basically a case of trial and error in getting the questions correct. This is my bad for over-scoping and will hopefully be rectified in a post-jam release – but, for now, I will provide some hints:
    • One of the answers is in the 'story' section of the main page.
    • Another is implied in Karius' description – how is he able to support his jewellery-collecting habits? It must get pretty expensive!
    • Karius is very lucky, and knows it, to the point of carelessness. If you've gotten a very specific perception of him due to the premature ending, then try answering some questions according to that suspicion.
EXPLANATIONS AND FUTURE PLANS (contains major spoilers!)

Karius, as one could reasonably assume, is a serial killer who uses dating apps to find victims – but due to his extreme luck, hasn't been caught.

Tavi has been trying to hunt this culprit down for however long for whatever reason, screening her dates according to a 'culprit profile' she has determined. And so, she asks the following questions:

  • What is your occupation, if applicable? → The culprit is likely a day worker due to always committing crimes at night. In Karius' case, he must also be making enough money to fund his obvious jewellery-collecting habit.
  • Marital status? What is it? → The culprit likely has a negative view on love due to their dating app usage, so a 'negative' marital status could explain that.
  • Whereabouts do you live? → The culprit is likely a local due to their frequency of committing crimes in the same area. But then, wouldn't you travel to ward suspicion off yourself? You must be lucky you haven't been caught yet, if that's the case...
  • Have you ever been convicted of a crime before? → This is a typical criminal interrogation question. If this culprit hasn't been caught yet despite having several connected murders in one area, then it's possible that they haven't been a person of suspicion at all. You're automatically more scrutinised when you have any semblance of a criminal record, so wouldn't it make more sense for this culprit to have none whatsoever?
  • How do you feel about those you've previously gone on dates with? → This is to possibly establish a motive. Karius' motive for his crimes will be clarified in a post-jam release.

Again, not all the pieces are inside the game yet due to O2A2's word cap of 1000 words.

After the jam, I already have plans to reinstate everything in the files that hasn't been implemented in-game yet due to possibly violating jam rules (I don’t think anything in there actually did, but better be safe than sorry!)

I am currently conspiring what to do with the game's script after that point, other than beefing it up a little. Tavi's motive for hunting down Karius has changed a little since I started working on this game to connect her to some of my other characters, so I will finalise the details on that before pushing out another release.

My likely course of action is to leave the main script as is other than the beefing, then have unlockable scenes that clarify Karius' and Tavi's motivations/plans. Karius' will be unlocked after getting the premature ending, and Tavi's the true ending. Hopefully this will clear everything up enough so that you're not totally confused whilst/after playing, but positively intrigued.

And then you'll definitely play J.K'S EVERYDAY, my main project, on release day *wink wink nudge nudge* since it'll clarify all the lore bits and won't be nearly as confusing LOL.

Sorry for all the confusion, and thank you so much for playing! 💛

EDIT: I've been made aware that 'marital' is spelt wrong in-game! This will be fixed in the extended version (whoopsie, my bad)
